Personal Note From the Author Dwight Nichols
When I wrote my first book, Listening to Ourselves: The Key to Everything that Matters, I had no intention of writing anything about Jesus, God, heaven and hell—anything about religion. However, while writing Listening to Ourselves, I became aware of the fact that something quite significant is missing in modern day churches. I would write something and then realize that what I said is what Jesus meant; however, what Jesus meant is not what I had learned in the church. At that time, I did not know that David the Psalmist said, "Be still and commune with your own heart" … the same thing as being still and listening to ourselves.
Also, while writing the subject book, I wrote about being still, paying attention to insights, and getting an inner knowing and understanding. This is the same thing as communing and understanding with our heart, which is the secret left for us by Jesus and Isaiah for discovering the truth that would save us. This is made clear in my latest book, Peace, Truth, Love and Joy: What the Bible Is All About.
I realized that what I was writing is contrary to what many people believe and that many people would resist and resent what I was saying, although it is consistent with the Gospel that Jesus preached. While writing, the title of a song by Kris Kristofferson kept popping into my mind: "Why Me Lord"? The only sensible answer seemed to be, "Why not me."
I knew that what I was saying is true, and truth has never harmed anyone. The old myth, "truth hurts," is false. On the contrary, truth is the only thing that brings us peace and joy—what everyone desires. The myth, truth hurts, is based on ignorance and ego thinking.
One of the greatest lessons one could ever learn is the truth about what causes one to experience hurt, or causes one to be angry; it's not what others do or say. Once people clearly understand this, then they are on the threshold of knowing the truth that makes them free ... free from hurt; free from the bondage of fear—free from the world of the ego.
We live in a society in which it does not seem nice to disagree with another's religious beliefs. Let's face it! False beliefs are not divine, sacred, or holy. False beliefs impede us from understanding the Gospel that would bring us peace, joy and happiness, which is the primary purpose for the teachings of Jesus and the prophets of the Old Testament.
There is repetition in my writings. I am not apologizing for this. For 2,000 years people have been led astray from the Gospel that Jesus preached. We, our families, our society, our nation — the very world itself — are in need of a healing. The Gospel would heal us; the Gospel would save us. The Gospel would bring us, our families, our nation — the entire world — peace, joy, happiness and harmony (what everyone wants) ... if only we believed and embodied what Jesus said.
I have been overwhelmed by the response from readers of my writings. A link to responses follows. The list of responses does not include a response I got from an anonymous caller soon after I wrote Listening to Ourselves. She saw the book at a local book store and was intrigued by it. However, before purchasing the book she called to ask if the book is based on old new age stuff. It seems that she was looking for something she was not getting in the church, yet she was not interested in anything not consistent with what she was getting in the church.
Her response was quite different from that of another caller, who said something like: "I found your book at the book store. I picked it up and put it down a couple of times and started to leave the store without buying it. I went back of bought the book, and I am glad I did. It is the most helpful book I have ever read."
Comments similar to the above have inspired me study the Holy Scriptures like I had never studied them before. Jesus said, "Seek, and ye shall find." Although it has been glossed over — or ignored — what I discovered is that the guidance for finding everything seekers are seeking can be found in the Holy Scriptures.

The Key to Everything that Matters
Truth is the solution to all mental suffering and unhappiness. There is one hidden cause of all mental turmoil and suffering, and truth is the only solution. This book simplifies and demystifies the discovery of the truth that sets us free. In all simplicity, we discover truth by being still and listening to ourselves … the same thing that David the Psalmist said to do about 3,000 years ago: "Be still and commune with your own heart." You cannot follow the 30-day program in this book (practicing the exercises seriously and conscientiously) without discovering the truth that sets you free … or at least be well on your way.

The exercises in Listening To Ourselves are simple, practical, understandable ... and they work. You do not have to change your religious beliefs to try them. And surely it is not contrary to your religious beliefs to be still, pay attention and listen to yourself ... to acknowledge and understand your obscure fears and false beliefs.
This book includes three techniques for taming the mind ... a prerequisite for the discovery of truth. We simply cannot discover truth without transcending the chatter of the elephantine ego. When we discover the truth that sets us free, we know ourselves. When we know ourselves, we know the truth that sets us free.

Life's Greatest Lesson: The Message Jesus Intended for Us
Learn the truth! If we did any one of a few things that Jesus said to do (not all of them, but any one of them), we would be saved. For example, we would be saved if we were as perfect as Jesus said to be: “Be perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). We are perfect — and we are saved — when we do what Jesus said to do first: "Cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter" … the same thing as doing what James, bother of Jesus, said to do: "Purify your hearts, ye double minded."
The key to the whole matter about being saved is purifying our heart. Jeremiah said, “Wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved." ... same thing as purifying our heart. When our heart is pure, we are converted and as humble, honest and truthful as little children ... a prerequisite for enjoying heaven, according to what Jesus said.

Why Christians Leave Christianity: It's ironic, but Christians leave Christianity in an effort to learn the basic message Jesus intended for us. The Only Way to Find Peace, Joy and Happiness
Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37). If we (as a society) loved as Jesus said to love, we, our families, our nation — the very world itself — would be in peace and harmony ... deep within the soul of us what everyone desires. However, we cannot love with all our heart when our heart is not pure ... when our heart is embedded with unwarranted fear and deeply held false beliefs that cause mental turmoil and suffering.
We purify our heart — we discover the truth that sets us free — by being still and communing with our heart ... by doing what David the Psalmist said to do about 3,000 years ago: "Be still and commune with your own heart."

Think about it! The Apostle Paul, who wrote about two-thirds of the New Testament, said, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." People began calling upon the name of the Lord during early biblical times: "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord" (Genesis 4:26) ... the same thing as communing with the heart ... the same thing as communing with God.

The secret for discovering truth is revealed in this booklet. Truth sets us free from the influence of the false ego self that is the underlying cause of anxiety, depression, hate, anger, illnesses, problems in sex and relationships ... all mental turmoil and suffering. Consequently, truth sets us free to love and be loved, to be healthy, happy, satisfied and contented ... free to enjoy the things that matter most in life.
We know more about our deeply held fears and beliefs — the way we believe and think in our heart (our subconscious mind) — than does anyone else. We are our own best teacher, healer, therapist, psychic, and guru ... if only we would be still, pay attention, and listen to ourselves.
From the Bible we know: “It is done unto us as we believe." "That which we fear will come upon us." "As we think in our heart, so are we.”
To discover truth, you need not learn anything new. You need only to unlearn obscure fearful, false beliefs. When you obliterate all that is fearful and false from your subconscious mind, what remains must be true.

This comparatively small book explains the most essential teachings of the Bible. The most essential teachings of the entire Bible are about what would save us, and consequently, what would bring us inner serenity, peace, joy and happiness … the sole purpose for the teachings of Jesus and the prophets of the Old Testament.
The following is a sample of the things explained in this booklet:
The truth about the Gospel that Jesus preached and that he commanded his disciples to preach to every creature in the entire world.
The truth about the sole purpose for the teachings of Jesus and the saints of the Old Testament.
The hidden, underlying cause of anxiety, depression, hate, anger, jealousy, emotional insecurity, psychosomatic illnesses (those illnesses caused by the mind and account for about 60 percent of the visits to doctors)—all mental turmoil and suffering.
The truth about what would save us, according to what Jesus and other biblical teachers said.
The truth about the truth that would set us free from all mental turmoil and suffering.
The truth about what our purpose in life is, according to what Solomon said … consistent with the Gospel that Jesus preached.
The secret for achieving peace, joy and happiness. The secret has been known for about 3,000 years; it is in the Old Testament … the secret that would not fail. This is it!
The truth about heaven and hell: where and what they are.
The truth about our true nature; it isn’t evil and sinful, as many people seem to believe. Briefly, our true nature is perfect … created in the image and likeness of God.
The truth about who sent Jesus and why he was sent, according to what Jesus said.
The secret for understanding and embodying the Gospel that Jesus preached. Jesus let us know the secret; however, what Jesus said has been glossed over. This is it! If you do not learn to do this one thing, you could study the Bible from cover to cover, again and again — you could hear sermons all of your life — and never discover the truth that sets you free.
This nation is headed toward being “utterly wasted” (language of Isaiah). What would change the direction in which we are headed?
The truth about when suffering and violence — when wars and the rumors of wars — will end, according to what Jesus said.
The truth about when people will live in peace and harmony … in our families, our society, our nation—the very world itself, according to what Jesus said.
The truth about what we would worship if we believed and embodied the Gospel that Jesus preached, according to what Jesus said.

Peace, Truth, Love, and Joy: What the Bible Is All About
Know this to be true! The Gospel that Jesus preached and commanded his disciples to preach to every creature in the world would bring peace and harmony to us, our families, our nation — the entire world — if people understood, believed, and did what Jesus said.
Learn the truth about what we must do to be saved — to have peace and joy — according to what Jesus and other biblical teachers said.
Learn the truth about what must be the hidden secret of the ages. You could study the Bible and listen to sermons all your life and never know the truth that makes you free if you do not do this one thing that was revealed by Isaiah and confirmed by Jesus.
Learn the truth about the one hidden cause of all mental turmoil and suffering—the hidden cause of any deviation from our true nature.
Learn the truth about what and where Satan is.
Learn the truth about how to find happiness. The secret that will not fail is revealed in the Old Testament. Why is this glossed over?
Learn the truth about when suffering and violence — when wars and rumors of wars — would end, according to Isaiah and Jesus.
The title, “Is God Real?” appears on the front cover of Newsweek, April 9, 2007. Think about it! We’re in the 21st century and this topic is debated.
Learn the truth about what God is, where God is, and how to commune with God—a must for knowing the truth that would save us.
